In Case: 0 t appears as though technology has advanced yet civilization has digressed back into segregation based on purebloods versus modded people, who are labeled as beasts, robbed of their rights. When I learned about Annalise and her relationship with Mavel, I could see the tension of this segregation; she is from the purebloods and he is her servant, forced to do as she says when it’s a direct order, yet maintaining his ability to voice his opinions when they differ from hers. Although the book is mostly fast-paced, the middle section does slow down as I was immersed in more details about the complex case she has been given to solve when she joins the police force. Although Annalise is born to a rich, influential family, Annalise strains against the role she has been forced to play all her life as the daughter of a politician until it reaches a boiling point of acceptance or loss forever. This is an intriguing story which leaves a lot of room to wonder what will happen in the next book in the series.
