My First Must-Read
When I was in my early twenties, my sister, Ginger, introduced me to the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. It was my first experience on a different world. The Dragonriders of Pern was the first time I truly let my mind take off on an adventure to a place of daring, deceit, and danger; fantasy, and myth. The series was originally published in 1968, but the series lives on for me as a timeless adventure.
Reading the Dragonriders of Pern series sparked an intense desire to put my nose in another fantastic fantasy series…and then another…and then another. No wonder this series was named one of the top 30 best fantasy books of all time. Many books later, I finally realized my ultimate inspiration from Dragonriders of Pern was to write my own novels. No matter if you are an old school author or a new age book worm, you MUST read the Dragonriders of Pern.

Others’ Reviews
Don’t just take it from me, though! Here are what others have said about it over the years:
“This series influenced me profoundly. There are not enough words to describe how much I love this series.:)” – Lynn, Goodreads
“Overall, this series is one of my favourites, I loved it when I was a kid, and I still enjoy it now. I always like re-visiting Pern, and the books are always fun to read. I always felt like it would be awesome fun to live there. I think the books become more enjoyable the more you get into them and the more you read. If you enjoy science-fiction, or Anne McCaffrey’s other books, and haven’t read the ‘Dragonriders of Pern’ series yet, I highly recommend giving them a go.” – Sarah, Schapmanblog
“Wow, this takes me back. Loved this book when I read it. Bought it knowing nothing about it, as part of my membership bundle in The Science Fiction Book Club. Ahh, the Days of Yore. Looking back, at the beginning the characters seem stiff and cliche, but it loosens up as it goes along. The sensibilities of a different generation are seen in the attitudes and personalities of the characters, which seem a bit archaic by modern thinking. The start of a epic series of books well worth reading.” – Jim, Goodreads
I first started reading Anne McCaffrey in 1969, and read everything she wrote since then, nearly as soon as it came out. My favorites are the Pern books, which I am now adding to my kindle library so I can re-read them more conveniently. (My hard cover of The White Dragon is huge and heavy!) … Plot twists abound, to quote from the Princess Bride “fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles.”. … This is a great favorite of mine.” – Virginia, Amazon Review
